You can upload a document to your website, and create a link to it on your web pages. Your readers will be able to see the document, providing they have the appropriate software.
The most common format for web documents is PDF ('Portable Document Format') from Adobe. Software to view PDF documents can be downloaded free of charge, and also comes bundled with most modern browsers (Firefox, IE, Chrome etc.). This is in contrast to e.g. Microsoft Word, where the user has to purchse Word software to read a document in Word format (.DOC).
Before being able to place a link to the document on a web page, you have to up-load the document to the website. Documents are organized into folders. This page describes how to worm with folders and the documents in them.
When you choose the option 'Documents' on the main menu, you'll see a screen similar to the one below. This screen shows the documents in a folder. The screen opens with the top folder, but you can change this easily by choosing the folder you want in the drop-down list below the folder title:
Change Folder
The following buttons are on the tool-bar at the botom of the screen:
To upload a document to this folder, click on the 'Upload Document' button.
For a full description of how this works see the Upload Document page.
To create a new folder click on the 'Create Folder' button.
For a full description see the Create Folder page.
If you click on one of the documents, the following menu pops up:
Click on this option to view the document in a new window (tab).
Clicking on this option brings up the following window:
Write the new name instead of the old one. Remember to add the same extension (e.g. '.pdf' or '.doc') as the original, otherwise you'll have problems linking to the document.
If another document with the same name (as the new name) already exists, the following warning pop-up will appear:
A document with this name already exists. Do you want to overwrite it?
Note that renaming the document will preserve any link from your web pages to the document, reducing the possibility of 'dead links'.
Clicking on this option creates a copy of the document immediately. The copy will have the same name as the original document but prefixed by 'Copy(n)_' , where n is 1,2,3.. indicating that this is the nth copy that you've made. So if you make two copies of 'Agenda.pdf' your screen will look like this.
Change Folder
You can then use the Rename function to call the copies whatever you want.
Clicking on this option brings up the following menu:
This option allows you to move the document in another folder.
Choose the folder you want to copy to, the copy will be created immediately.
If a document with the same name already exists in the target folder, the following warning will pop-up:
A document with this name already exists. Do you want to overwrite it?
Note that moving the document will preserve any link from your web pages to the document, reducing the possibility of 'dead links'.
Choose this option to remove the document from the web-site. (You'll have to re-upload the document if you want it back)
Clicking on this option brings the following window up:
Are you sure you want to remove this element?
Click on this option to get a list of all the pages that have a link to this document.
The list is shown on a new page. Clicking on a line in the list allows you to go and edit that page directly.
